Shuttle Time Begins in Malaysia

November 21, 2019

The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) believes the best foundation for sports development starts within the school system. As such, they have begun their roll out of the BWF Shuttle Time Schools Programme across the country.

Shuttle Time offers school teachers access to free resources, training and equipment to support the teaching of enjoyable, safe and inclusive badminton activities to children aged 5-15 years old.

This ensures a sustainable environment when it comes to promoting badminton activities in schools.

In 2019, BAM took the initiative to include the BWF Shuttle Time School Programme into their long-term national planning as the programme is in high demanded by State Associations and local clubs within the country.

In collaboration with the Badminton Asia Confederation (BAC), both parties organised a BWF Shuttle Time Teacher Course for the first time in three years.

The two-day course was delivered in Perlis in northern Malaysia from 18-19 July 2019 and attracted more than 60 Physical Education (PE) teachers from local primary and secondary schools.

BAC is confident that the promotion and development of badminton at the grassroots level using the Shuttle Time resource can grow the sport even more in Malaysia.

The participants responded positively to the course and were very impressed to be given the opportunity to apply the Shuttle Time content, both theory and practical, to 100 children on day two of the course.

At the end of the course, they were very confident and eager to grow the sport in their school area with the knowledge gained from Shuttle Time.

“BWF Shuttle Time is a suitable programme to encourage all students to play badminton through positive and fun activities. I do not have any experience of coaching or teaching badminton, but with all these materials it’s definitely easier for me to deliver badminton in my school,” said one of the PE teachers.
