The Project
The project intends to introduce Shuttle Time to new school PE teachers whose schools do not currently include a badminton programme. It is also focussed on schools looking to introduce a badminton programme but whose teachers lack knowledge of the sport. PE teachers in schools aged 22-55 are the target group, with approximately 60 per cent male and 40 per cent female.
Motivation
The School Badminton League is a means to getting more schools and teachers involved, with the league offering students an exciting opportunity to compete and develop their skills.
Strong Legacy
Since 2018, over 170 coaches have participated in Shuttle Time programmes in Bishkek, demonstrating the programme’s success and impact. In 2025, the association’s goal was to expand the programme further by reaching 50 additional coaches, with a strong focus on engaging new participants.
The association is also considering additional ideas to enhance engagement, such as:
Workshops for Teachers: Provide training sessions for PE teachers to learn the basics of badminton and effective coaching techniques.
Student Clinics: Host fun, interactive badminton clinics for students to spark their interest in the sport.
Equipment Grants: Offer discounted or free badminton kits to schools starting new programmes.
Demo Events: Organise exhibition matches and mini-tournaments to showcase the sport’s excitement.
Recognition Programmes: Create awards for schools, teachers, and students who excel in promoting and participating in badminton.
Community Partnerships: Collaborate with local badminton clubs to provide mentorship and support for schools.
Online Resources: Develop easy-to-access online tutorials and lesson plans for teachers new to badminton.
Badminton Festivals: Host regional badminton festivals to celebrate the sport and encourage friendly competition among schools.
