Strengthening Foundations in Thailand

April 1, 2026

Over 30 coaches and school teachers underwent Shuttle Time courses in Nakhon Sawan, Thailand, in February, as part of Badminton Association of Thailand’s initiative to continue developing badminton at the grassroots level.

The Tutor course (20-21 February) and the Teacher course (22 February) were conducted with several goals in mind, including grassroots development, equipping teachers according to internationally recognised standards, to increase participation in sports through inclusive opportunities and to promote healthy lifestyles and sporting values.

The courses were a combination of theory and practical sessions, with demonstration-based learning and group activities. Official BWF teaching resources and lesson plans were provided to the trainees.

The training led to increased confidence among teachers and coaches in delivering badminton lessons, expansion of badminton activities in schools and communities, and greater collaboration between the regional organisation and BAT.

The Shuttle Time Thailand programme was conducted as part of the national development initiative. The course included structured theoretical and practical sessions designed to enhance participants’ knowledge, coaching skills, and confidence in delivering badminton activities in conjunction of their national competition, Domestic Power Badminton Championships 2026.

BAT’s Pornpawee Anantakitpaisal, the National Coordinator for Shuttle Time, was thrilled with the outcomes: “Shuttle Time is a key foundation of our grassroots development strategy. By empowering coaches, teachers, and tutors with internationally recognised standards, we are building a sustainable system that supports our vision of ‘Badminton for All’ and help expand badminton everywhere.”

Through interactive workshops, demonstrations, and group practices, participants learned how to implement fun, safe, and inclusive badminton sessions. The programme emphasized grassroots development and the concept of ‘Badminton for All’.

Anurak Tatha, who attended the Tutor course, said the training had improved his confidence.

“This course has provided me with a clearer structure for delivering badminton through engaging activities. The lesson plans are practical, easy to implement, and suitable for different age groups. I feel more confident in leading sessions and creating a safe, enjoyable learning environment to further promote badminton.”

The activity has received positive feedback from participants and has contributed to strengthening the network of certified badminton instructors and educators in Thailand.

Pacharakamon Arkornsakul, who attended the Teacher course, said: “Before attending Shuttle Time, I did not have a clear framework for teaching badminton in schools. Now, I understand how to organise activities step by step and make lessons more inclusive, engaging, and enjoyable for both boys and girls.”
