August 1, 2024

In the heart of Surkhet, an initiative unfolded that promises to leave a lasting impact on the community. From July 5th to 6th, the Nepal Badminton Association proudly hosted the Shuttle Time Teachers course at Karnali province, igniting a passion for badminton among educators and children.

The primary focus of this program was clear: empower school teachers from both primary and secondary schools to introduce badminton to their students, fostering a love for the sport from an early age. The event drew participants from 23 different schools across the region, with a balanced representation of 50% male and 50% female attendees, reflecting a commitment to inclusivity and equal opportunity.

Utilising the BWF Shuttle Time teaching materials and the innovative Shuttle Time mobile app, the program unfolded seamlessly. Participants immersed themselves in both theoretical insights and practical training sessions at the Surkhet District Badminton Association Hall. The atmosphere was electric as teachers eagerly absorbed new knowledge and skills, poised to enrich their classrooms and communities.

Feedback from the participants was overwhelmingly positive. Many expressed gratitude for the opportunity to deepen their understanding of badminton, a sport that promises not just physical activity but also teamwork, discipline, and joy. For most teachers, this was their first formal introduction to badminton, and they left with newfound confidence to integrate the sport into their educational curriculum effectively.

“I am new to badminton, and I feel fortunate to have attended this program. Now, I can confidently engage more children in safe and enjoyable badminton activities,” remarked one enthusiastic participant.

The impact of the program extends beyond individual enrichment. By equipping teachers with the tools and enthusiasm to promote badminton, the Nepal Badminton Association aims to make the sport a cornerstone of school life and community engagement. Participants pledged to champion badminton within their schools and collaborate closely with the association to further the sport’s popularity and development across the country.

“The Shuttle time has been the main stem for the further development of Badminton throughout the world with it’s easy theoretical and practical contents. The outcome is that after the teachers gain the knowledge and skill for badminton, they can easily guide children for to play badminton in a safe and fun environment.” Commented by Ramji Bahadur Shrestha, President of Nepal Badminton Association.

Through initiatives like the Shuttle Time program, communities are not only discovering the thrill of badminton but also nurturing the next generation of young children and enthusiasts who will carry the sport forward with passion and pride.
