Youth Leadership Through Badminton in Ecuador

April 1, 2026

Early March saw the rollout of the Shuttle Time Youth Leadership Programme at two educational institutions in the Ecuadorian city of Guayaquil.

Held on three days (5-7 March) at Salesiano Domingo Comín and Unidad Educativa Apóstol Santiago, students not only picked up the basics of badminton, but also key skills such as leadership and training in continuing to work for the sport.

The initiative was aimed at strengthening the practice of badminton as a tool for the development of skills and the encouragement of youth leadership.

The sessions – both practical and theory – were led by Shuttle Time Tutor Emilio Zambrano with the support of Shuttle Time Teachers Javier Carrillo and Fabian Chumo. The activity was driven by Ecuadorian Badminton Federation and the directors of the two institutions.

Thirty students, aged between 15 and 18 from the two schools in Guayaquil, underwent badminton drills, besides training in leadership and teamwork.

The sessions required both individual effort and group dynamics that fostered cooperation. A highlight of the activity was the interaction between students from both schools, with the integration promoting the exchange of experiences among the students of Guayaquil.

“This activity has allowed us to connect more with young people so that they can learn and know more about badminton and everything that is done through Shuttle Time,” said Zambrano.

“It helps us so that more children and young people can learn about badminton and see all the possibilities that can be achieved through sport.”
