Welcome Mayotte Island to the Shuttle Time Family

May 15, 2024

Badminton is relatively unknown in Mayotte Island, off the coast of southeaster Africa. To develop and popularise the sport, Ligue Mahoraise de Badminton conducted the island’s first Shuttle Time activity from 22 to 24 January 2024, with 17 participants.

The activity was held with the collaboration of BWF, Badminton Confederation of Africa (BCA) and FFBaD. Instructor Didier Nourry from Reunion Island conducted the activity.

The participants (10 men and 7 women) are teachers and volunteers with the association, who underwent training so they could instruct upcoming players.

The session was a success, attracting attention in the press and radio. Within a week of the activity, three schools started badminton and more volunteers have enrolled.

National Coordinator Sara Minas reports: “For the president of our league Matthieu Gouzou this programme was a success. It was a very good opportunity to make everybody know our sport and we have received positive feedback from teachers who had done the activity. We hope that this will help to improve the development of our activity and especially with our young players and in school. We have several new teachers who want to undergo training in future.”
