Encouraging Female Participation in Niger

June 1, 2025

Around 200 girl students participated in Shuttle Time training conducted by the Niger Badminton Federation as part of its efforts to popularise badminton among young women in the country.

The students of Mission Filles School aged between 9 and 12 were invited to participate in the Shuttle Time programme on 12 April 2025. The programme was conducted in collaboration with the school, which has over 1000 students.

Badminton has been played at the school – which is in Niamey — over the last four years after it was introduced into the school’s curriculum. Apart from the Mission Filles School, other private schools in the capital have also signed a partnership with the federation to develop badminton. These activities are aimed at promoting the development of women in sport, and particularly in badminton.

The overall response has been positive. Badminton has attracted enthusiasm among the young learners, and has motivated others.
