Shuttle Time Reignites the Spirit of Badminton in Sri Lanka

For the first time in two years Sri Lanka Badminton Association (SLBA)  conducted a BWF Shuttle Time school programme to introduce local teachers to the health benefits of badminton.

The Shuttle Time Teacher course was conducted In February 2019 in six provinces: Northern, North Western, North Central, Central, Eastern and Uva. The participants who attended the course hailed from various backgrounds. Some were teachers, others were coaches and players.

The initiative is aligned with Badminton Asia’s aims to grow the sport in South Asia. With support from Badminton Asia, six Shuttle Time Teacher courses and one Shuttle Time Tutor course were delivered in the first half of 2019 by BA Regional Development Officer, Nikhil Chandra Dhar from Bangladesh.

An interesting aspect of the teacher course conducted in Bandarawela was the topic of modern training system for children with special needs. At the end of the six Shuttle Time Teacher courses, a total number of 282 participants successfully passed the course and became certified BWF Shuttle Time Teachers.

In April 2019, a two-day Shuttle Time Tutor course was delivered in the city of Colombo. Certified BWF Shuttle Time Teachers with good leadership skills and potential to be trained as BWF Shuttle Time Tutors were invited to attend the tutor course. A total number of 19 participants attended, completed the course and became certified BWF Shuttle Time Tutors.

With Shuttle Time Sri Lanka, there has been an increase in manpower across the provinces in Sri Lanka to deliver fun, safe and inclusive badminton activities to children.
